Alan has just returned from another flying visit to Cork where son Nathan is currently studying and as he’s developing an affection for the region plus, today Ireland is on holiday, I asked him to list his Top 3 things about nation’s 2nd city …
1. The beautiful River Lee flows through the city centre, spanned by 31 bridges. Beat that Dublin … (Ed: knowing a lot of dubliners, I’m not taking sides)
2. Pubs and bookshops.
It seems there’s at least one of each on every street, making Cork a kind of paradise.
Special mention to Vibes and Scribes for its brilliant second hand selection and Arthur Maynes for a pint of Beamish chased by a glass of West Cork whiskey.
Yes, paradise
3. The Butter Museum.
The history of the city told through the medium of your favourite spread.
Weirdly fascinating and I highly recommend a visit.
